I’ll start this lesson plan by singing through the song If the Savior Stood Beside Me once first. You can use our If the Savior Stood Beside Me Flip Chart to help!
Then, I’ll show them the first contrasting choice example – one that follows the Savior’s example and one that doesn’t. Let the kids help you decide which one is right and what the different examples have to do with the song phrases.
You can cover the “wrong” choice with a scrap piece of paper, let the kids cross it off with a fat marker, or simple the “right” choice – whatever works best.
You can sing through that far into the song, then introduce the next choice.
This lets you easily sing through the song 4-5 times with a little bit of conversation that helps connect the words to their meaning.
